PARKLAND COUNTY -- A local resident is facing multiple charges after being arrested near the Enoch First Nation.

The arrest stemmed from a police investigation led by Parkland and Enoch RCMP, which began on September 29, 2025, at 2:15 a.m. This came after RCMP received a report about a stolen skid steer that was being tracked via GPS by its owners.

Mounties were able to track the skid steer to an area near Range Road 271 and Highway 16A near Enoch. They then located the equipment on a large flatbed trailer being towed by a stolen GMC pickup truck.

The vehicle was stopped by RCMP, and the lone male driver was arrested and charged with a number of criminal offences. 46-year-old Craig Barton -- a resident of Parkland County -- was charged with the following offences:

  • Possession of stolen property over $5,000 (x3)
  • Possession of stolen property under $5,000
  • Breach of probation order
  • Breach of release order

The value of the recovered stolen property was estimated at more than $150,000. Barton was remanded into custody and had his first court appearance at the Alberta Court of Justice Stony Plain on October 1, 2025.
